How to open an xterm from container host

I need to open an xterm from the container host (outside the container)
I have already xhost + inside the VNC

But not able to open  xterm after setting the display to localhost:1 

bash-5.1$ xterm
xterm: Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:1

Please help
