Hi, you asked for feedback for anything that might help Zulip integrate galene :)

The most obvious issue is that Galène has no logo. Zulip's build won't work without one so I made one up. I felt a bit awkward doing your branding for you. It's 100% just meant as a placeholder!

I know picking a logo is even harder than picking a name but if you've had any kicking around in the back of your mind now might be a good time to dust them off. I believe Galène is the by far the fastest way for any Zulip admin to add calling to their team ( I want to use it myself for my team, that's why I'm invested ) and I hope it will look good in the catalogue when it gets accepted.

Yes, we need a logo. In addition to the reason you describe, there's the issue of various people wanting to produce Galene stickers and other goodies.

I have no problem with that. (There's precedent: the kind folks at NLnet have produced some stickers with a Galene logo that they designed for the last FOSDEM. They naturally asked my permission first, which I gladly gave.)

Ok, let's try to agree on some features.

Hard requirements

• The same graphic (perhaps with minor variations, but still recognisably the same) must be useful as a logo on a poster or a t-shirt, as a webpage icon, as an Android application icon, as an iPhone icon, and as a clickable button in various web apps.

Nice to have

• It should be possible to express accurately in SVG and PDF without using bitmaps;
• there should be a simplified version that can be cut out as a stencil without falling to pieces;
• it shoould be possible to change the colour scheme (e.g. typeset it in black and white) while still being recognisable.

Additional thoughts

Galena is a crystalline form of lead sulfide. Galena has pretty cubic crystals. The logo could be based on a cube.

Poste à Galène is French for an old crystal radio. The logo could allude to a crystal radio.

Galene is one of the Nereids. The logo could allude to ancient Greek mythology.

This is a really really good list. I was thinking a little about PbS with the grey tones in the logo I made. I'm not sure I can help much more in designing but I'm cheering this on :)

Maybe the FOSDEM people would lend their logo as a placeholder to Zulip?
