In order have a green check on a project mastodon page, would it be possible to encode a rel="me" link back to the handle for verification purposes?

Verification

You can verify yourself as the owner of the links in your profile metadata. For that, the linked website must contain a link back to your Mastodon profile. The link back must have a rel="me" attribute. The text content of the link does not matter. Here is an example:

Yes, it’s possible to add a rel="me" link on project pages.

This is used by Mastodon to verify that the website and the Mastodon account belong to the same project or person. Once the two are linked, Mastodon shows a green check mark next to the website on the profile.

How to do it:

Add this link somewhere on your project page (for example, in the footer or about section):

<a rel="me" href="https://fosstodon.org/@zarr">Mastodon</a>

Then add your project’s website (https://numfocus.org/project/zarr) to the “Website” field in your Mastodon profile.

After Mastodon crawls the page, it should show the green verified checkmark.

Works fine for static sites (GitHub Pages, Jekyll, Hugo, etc.). The link text doesn’t matter — only the href and rel="me" attributes are required.

I’m a new contributor exploring the numfocus.org codebase and wanted to check:
