Quick reload from CLI

I was investigating how to do a Quick Reload from the command line
But it seems ha core reload does not exist.

It would be a great addition to have.

Why the uncertainty?

I am not sure where CLI feature request sit

Use cases

Using AI agents for example with the VS Code app could benefit from being able to reload without supervision

What areas might this affect?

Would there be a workaround today to programmatically reload the integrations?

The HA cli is not meant to be used day-by-day, so not all features from the UI will be added to the cli. But you can use one of these action calls to reload the scope you want by one click from the frontend

The usecase would be: when developing and working on modifying the configuration yaml files and after a check, being able to script the reloading.
It would not be day to day.
But a coding agent in vscode could trigger this via scripting

Otherwise I would be interested to know if there is another programmatic way to do this

CLI tools do get more popular for LLM use. @balloob created hab for exactly this purpose: https://github.com/balloob/home-assistant-build-cli

Maybe we could consider merging the two into one. Both are go and use cobra library, so they would be rather compatible.

After some work and thinking this week end I compared 2 approaches so far:

1. the vscode HA app (and installing the Claude extension) which contains only the HA CLI, with some skills and rules I was trying to generate myself
2. The Claude code app which is a bare bones Claude code in terminal, and has better examples of skills for connecting to the home assistant

I have discovered thanks to that app that actually the supervisor API can be used for my purposes and more.
Also Claude code terminal consumes way less tokens (and then money) than the vscode plugin so I will continue using that.

(To be clear there are other security implications of running Claude directly on the device instead of remotely, but that way it can see the code of all my HACS extensions which has been great for me)

The advantagte I could see though to have a systematic mapping of API functionalities through a CLI is that it could be easier to write rules like forbidding ha core restart but allowing ha core reload during its own tests of automation changes.
Writing those rules with API paths is less effective as it is harder to write proper wildcard without being expert in the API and also if it can't connect with curl it will try again with python etc
