Hi, I'm Jose Cruz. I created this repository as a curated list of internships, programs, and opportunities specifically designed for underclassmen — freshmen and sophomores in tech, software engineering, and related fields — as well as rising freshmen (Class of 2030) who are high school seniors preparing to break into tech the moment they step on campus.
I know how overwhelming the internship search can feel when you're just starting out — or when you haven't even started college yet. I don't want any underclassmen (Class of 2028, 2029, or 2030) to feel left behind in their career journey. Many companies have programs specifically for first and second-year students (and even incoming freshmen) that don't require prior experience, and I want to make sure everyone has access to these opportunities.
This is a community-driven space. I welcome contributions from anyone who wants to help fellow students succeed. If you find an opportunity, share it. If you learned something, pass it on. Together, we can make the path a little clearer for everyone.

Opportunities specifically designed for students attending Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs), Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) member institutions, and programs with a strong HBCU recruiting focus.
Opportunities that are exclusively for (or strongly focused on) women, non-binary, and gender-minority students in tech, engineering, and related fields.
Opportunities open to rising freshmen (Class of 2030) — high school seniors preparing to start college in Fall 2026 — as well as students admitted for future cycles. If you're breaking into tech before day one on campus, start here.
⚠️ Note: If you're a current high school senior (Class of 2030 college graduation), many of these scholarships are time-sensitive — check the deadline before applying. Most "rising freshmen" programs (like Deloitte Compass) require you to be admitted to a college and have an anticipated graduation year matching their target.
State-specific scholarships, grants, and aid programs for underclassmen and rising freshmen. Most are residency-based — you must be a resident of the listed state (or its HS/college system) to qualify. Filing the FAFSA (or the state equivalent like TASFA, WASFA, CADAA, ORSAA) is typically required.
💡 Many state grants are first-come, first-served or have limited funds — file your FAFSA as early as possible after it opens each October.
⚠️ State aid rules change frequently. Always verify eligibility and deadlines on the official state agency site before applying. Many programs require the FAFSA (or state equivalent) every year, even when the scholarship itself renews automatically.
Please read CONTRIBUTING.md before submitting an opportunity!
We welcome contributions from anyone. If you know of an underclassmen-specific opportunity that isn't listed, please submit an issue.
