Given changing note colors is (imo) out of the question, the next best thing is an indicator grid. I tried using barlines similar to the editor but that felt extremely jarring and overwhelming to play, so I settled on this approach as it feels the least intrusive.
Players can control via mod settings whether to show indicators on the top, bottom or both sides (default).
Intentionally avoided adding this to swells given timing doesn't really matter there. Implementing it also introduced weird quirks in relation with how swells fade out of the playfield, which adds unnecessary complexity that's doesn't feel justified based on the reasoning above.
