Tattoo Supply Starter Checklist

Essential equipment for beginning tattoo artists:

Machine & Power:

  • Tattoo machine (rotary recommended for beginners)
  • Power supply with foot pedal
  • RCA or clip cord

Needles & Cartridges:

  • Round liners (3RL, 5RL, 7RL)
  • Round shaders (5RS, 7RS, 9RS)
  • Magnum shaders (7M1, 9M1, 13M1)

Ink:

  • Black ink (high quality, e.g., Eternal, Dynamic)
  • White ink
  • Basic color set (if doing color work)
  • Ink caps

Safety & Sanitation:

  • Nitrile gloves (multiple sizes)
  • Green soap
  • Stencil solution or transfer gel
  • Razor for shaving area
  • Autoclave bags
  • Sharps container
  • Barrier film / clip cord covers
  • Paper towels

Workspace:

  • Adjustable tattoo chair or table
  • Arm rest

Aftercare Instructions Template

TATTOO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

FIRST 2-4 HOURS:
- Keep bandage on for 2-4 hours after your session
- Wash hands before removing bandage

FIRST 2 WEEKS:
- Wash gently 2-3x daily with unscented soap
- Pat dry with clean paper towel (never cloth towels)
- Apply thin layer of unscented moisturizer
- Do NOT pick or scratch the tattoo
- Avoid submerging in water (pools, baths, ocean)
- Avoid direct sunlight
- Wear loose, breathable clothing over the area

LONG-TERM:
- Always apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) when exposed to sun
- Keep skin moisturized
- Avoid tanning beds

CONTACT YOUR ARTIST IF:
- Excessive redness or swelling after 3 days
- Pus or unusual discharge
- Fever or signs of infection
- Severe allergic reaction
